June rides, Art & Wine bike valet, and our new advocacy agenda

Our next monthly Heather Farm bike ride is this Tuesday, June 2. Last time we had 10 adults and 10 children, which made for a great evening ride, picnic, and playground hangout. Let’s make this one even more of a neighborhood bike party!

Meet at 5:15 PM in the traffic circle by the Civic Park back fields. We roll out at 5:30 PM and ride together to Heather Farm on the Iron Horse Trail and Canal Trail. Kids who are comfortable on the trail can ride their own bikes, and smaller kids can ride with adults.

The Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival is this weekend, June 6–7, at Civic Park. Ride there if you can and skip the parking hassle. Volunteers will be running a free supervised bike valet, so you can enjoy the festival without worrying about your bike.

We now have a second monthly ride: a relaxed family-friendly bakery ride to Gus’s by the Canal Trail. Gus runs a lovely bakery right outside his house. The first one is Saturday, June 20. Meet at Civic Park at 9:45 AM, roll out at 10:00 AM sharp, ride together for treats and coffee, and then ride back together.

Kids who are comfortable on the trail can ride their own bikes; smaller kids can come along on an adult’s bike, cargo bike, trailer, or child seat.

The 2026 Summer Bike Challenge from 511 Contra Costa is open for registration. It’s free, family-friendly, and a great excuse to ride around Walnut Creek all summer.

Register, download the Walnut Creek gameboard, bike to local destinations from June through August, and join the weekly prize drawings. It’s a simple way to turn short rides into a summer activity.

Walk Bike Walnut Creek recently met with City of Walnut Creek traffic engineering staff to talk through our priorities and hear updates from their side. We were encouraged by how aligned the conversation was around our agenda and asks for safer crossings, better bike connections and Safe Routes to School.

We’re grateful for the work City staff have already done and the projects they’re moving forward. One of the best things residents can do is use the walking and biking infrastructure that exists, especially for trips under two miles, and speak up when new investments need public support.

We now have a map of walking and biking infrastructure in Walnut Creek based on data the City provided us, plus an easy way for residents to report issues.

 

Use it to flag difficult or dangerous places, sidewalk or bike lane issues, or anything else that you think should be fixed. We use these submissions when the City and County asks for our view on priorities.
