About Walk Bike WC

Walk Bike WC is a grassroots nonprofit organization founded in 2020 by local residents who wanted to make Walnut Creek a more walkable and bikeable community.

Our Story

Walnut Creek has always been a beautiful place to live, but for too long our transportation infrastructure has prioritized cars over people. We believe that everyone deserves safe, convenient options for walking and cycling, whether for daily commuting, recreation, or simply getting around town.

Our Vision

We envision a Walnut Creek where:

  • Children can safely walk or bike to school
  • Seniors can age in place with accessible transportation options
  • Families can enjoy car-free outings and recreation
  • Workers have viable alternatives to driving for their daily commute
  • Our streets are designed for people, not just vehicles

What We've Accomplished

Since our founding, we've made significant progress:

2020-2021: Getting Started

  • Organized our first community bike ride with 25 participants
  • Established monthly meetings and board structure
  • Began mapping existing bike infrastructure gaps

2022: Building Momentum

  • Launched our Safe Routes to School initiative
  • Advocated for the city's first protected bike lane
  • Hosted our first Bike to Work Day event

2023: Making Changes

  • Successfully pushed for new bike lanes on Main Street
  • Partnered with 5 local schools on safety improvements
  • Grew membership to over 200 community members
  • Secured $50,000 in city funding for pedestrian improvements

Our Team

Walk Bike WC is led by a volunteer board of directors and supported by dozens of community volunteers. We bring together diverse perspectives from urban planners, parents, cyclists, pedestrians, and community advocates.
